  Design Considerations

Creating a guitar or bass is a relatively complicated process. Fortunately, we will worry about most of the technicalities involved and will work with you so that the end product is the guitar that you've seen in your head. Whether you see yourself as a Flying-V wielding rock-god or a Chicago blues playing Tele lover, we can help you to get the guitar that you've been waiting for.

The design of your guitar is obviously driven by you. We will advise along the way on things like wood and hardware selection and will also advise where some things might not be practical - that three-necked, Explorer shaped, acoustic bass for instance, might be better never seeing the light of day. In most cases though, the design phase is relatively straightforward.

Most designs are straightforward because most people simply want a design that is similar to one of the classics but with modifications to suit their style and sound. Someone might love the look of a Strat but hanker after a P90 style pickup voice. Another might want Precision Bass look and sound with a narrower neck. We have found that the majority of people just want a guitar that 'fits' them better.

That said, there are people that want something completely different. Maybe you want a Bo Diddly style plank. Maybe you're the kind of person that needs a pointy-bodied, pointy-headed, trem-equiped monster with insane-o-drive™ pickups. That's fine too - we won't judge you. Whatever you want though, having a think about some of the points that follow will probably speed up the design process. What follows is sort of a 'here comes the science' bit, but stick with it. Have a read and then drop us a line.
